Qualcomm has announced its latest chipset advancements, set to enhance AI capabilities and 8K video processing for top-tier Android smartphones. The new Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chips showcase significant performance improvements over last year’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
- The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 boasts a 13% increase in CPU performance, while the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 shows a 10% enhancement.
- In terms of graphics processing, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 features a remarkable 44% boost in GPU performance, surpassing the 37% improvement of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6.
- For artificial intelligence tasks, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 offers a 35% uplift in NPU performance, compared to a 14% increase in the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6.
- Both chipsets demonstrate equal advancements in power efficiency for CPU (37%) and GPU (40%), but the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 outperforms its counterpart in AI performance-per-watt with a 33% increase, compared to 20% for the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6.
Both chipsets are powered by Qualcomm’s latest Oryon CPU, which achieves speeds of up to 5GHz, making it the world’s first mobile chip to reach such a frequency. This enhancement is expected to significantly improve overall processing, gaming, and camera functionalities.
Moreover, the newly redesigned sensing hub in these chips now features dual micro neural processing units, capable of delivering 85% more performance and 20% greater efficiency while tracking voice and sensor data in the background before activating more powerful processors.
Additionally, the chips incorporate an upgraded sound chip, the Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2, which offers double the AI performance and consumes up to 40% less power. Qualcomm is also launching a suite of applications and agents designed for devices that support Snapdragon Sound software.
