Valve has launched the reservation process for its latest product, the Steam Frame, a new stand-alone VR headset that aims to enhance virtual reality gaming experiences. Rather than implementing a conventional pre-order system, Valve has opted for a reservation queue to mitigate scalping and ensure that more customers have an equitable opportunity to purchase the device.
The Steam Frame is priced at $1,059 for the 256GB model and $1,299 for the larger 1TB version. Each purchase will include a complimentary copy of Half-Life: Alyx, provided the buyer does not already own the game.

The reservation window is open now and will remain available until September 17 at 10 a.m. PT. Once the sign-up period concludes, Valve will randomly assign reservation numbers and notify customers via email on the same day. Valve’s Steam Frame will support PC VR streaming and access to a variety of compatible Steam games. The randomized queue system aims to provide a fair chance for all customers after the reservation period ends.
Commenting on the headset’s performance, CNET VR expert Scott Stein stated, “Half-Life Alyx’s stand-alone performance is by far the most impressive experience I’ve had on Valve’s ambitious and sometimes awkward new VR-shaped gaming console.”
Customers will receive reservation and wait-list confirmation emails later on September 17. The first invitations for purchases are expected to be sent out on September 18. Upon launch, the headset will support 130 stand-alone verified games and include Half-Life: Alyx for new purchasers who have not previously acquired it in their Steam library. Valve anticipates expanding the library of verified games over time.
